We have so many concepts about who we think we are and about meditation. This cheat sheet can remind you time and time again to drop it all. So hang it up at a place where you see it often or keep it with you.
There are many meditation techniques and guided meditation. And all of them have their value. They are helpful for relaxation, concentration and visualisation. In our daily life we are trained to multi-task and always engage our mind. So everything which calms our mind is helpful. On the other hand some of these techniques and meditations enhance our struggles.
Why are so many struggling with meditation? Many give me feedback that they struggle with meditation. These are just some statements I receive:
- My mind just doesn´t stop talking
- I cannot find the time
- Sitting still is just difficult
- I cant see and feel anything
- If I hear noise then I fall out of my meditation
- When meditating I´m falling asleep
- I always procastinate daily meditation
Some of us see meditation as a practice, something we do. We can succeed or fail at it. When we see meditation as something we do or practice then automatically our mind, our body and our emotions are involved. It becomes a task in order to achieve something. Here is where our struggles start.
Let me show you how such a thought process in our mind can work with the example of not being able to quiet the mind:
We think: „I have to get still, I´m trying to get still, why can´t I be still? Maybe I´m not good at being stilll? Could it be that meditation is not for me?“
This can go on and on forever. The same with all the other struggles we encounter. Have you ever heard a noise while meditating? Many of us will falll out of meditation not because of the noise, but because of our thoughts not letting go of the noise.
Doing is movement, practicing is movement, thinking is movement. In movement there is a beginning and an end. We as humans with a body and mind have a beginning and an end. Meditation as we mostly see it has a beginning and an end. The states we try to achieve while meditating has a beginning and an end.
In Stillness nothing moves. The stateless presence of being is Stillness. Meditation is the stateless presence of being.
Stillness is ever present consciousness. It doesn`t mean, that your mind is not active at all. It is always active, but you are aware of this ever present stillness beyond your thoughts, beyond your emotions and beyond your body. This is not something you only recognise while sitting in your meditation position. It is always here. Meditation is being aware of this ever present Silence and being surrendered to it. Being submerged by it without any effort.
While you struggle or try to meditate, just for once drop everything. For one instant drop all techniques, all instructions, all knowing, all affirmations and visions, also all your believes.
See beyond your thoughts, your emotions, your body. Just for one second, just drop it.
Like looking into the mirror, but without judging, without giving it a name or a form, without emotion. What do you see?
No effort is needed, because it is already here. No gain is needed, because you can`t lose it. No goal can be achieved, because you already have it.
Beyond your thoughts, beyond your I is this Knowing, Endless, Limitless Stillness. It is always present, always still and quiet. It is directing your mind towards its source and staying here.
This is beingness. Embrace it and surrender to it.
Once you recognise your true Self, this ever present consciousness, this awareness transports into your daily life. There is no going back. Like the rain droplet falling into the ocean, once it touches the ocean, there is no awareness to the droplet of being only a droplet anymore.
I hope you enjoy this cheat sheet. And maybe I see you soon on one of my courses.
